Essays 2-03b: Who am I?

Hello, I'll introduce myself. I'll show you my family, my hometown, my school, my dog, my character, something my favorites.

First, I'll introduce my family. There five members of my family; father, mother, brother, a dog and me. My father was already retire of his job. But mother is still working. My father is kind and stubborn. I ofted don't understand his thinking, so I sometimes qurrel with him. But he is kind not only person but also animals. In my childhood and in the cold morning, he always warm my school uniform on the heater. Thanked for him, I can put on  warm clothes. My mother is so positive person, I think. She doesn't worry about bad things. She can change her opinion for good direction soon. Also she is hard worker. She wokes up early and prepare breakfast and my lunch. Even if she talks a lot with me at previous night and go to bed late, she workes up on time in the morning. She sometimes oversleeep, but she finished almost housework in the early morning. I often go shopping with her, so she likes a good friend for me.My brother is about 12years apart to me. He is already married and he has three naughty children. He also works in the morning to the night and sometimes he works overtime until midnight. I think he is reliable and interesting. His talk is always interesting and he makes me laugh. But some times he gets back serious. He is reliable, so if I worry something, I talk to him. And my dog is living about 13 years. He is still fine.

Second, I'll talk where I'm living. I live in Kumamoto, and located south districts from Kumamoto city. It takes about 30 minutes by a car to KGU, so it's little far from my house. If I go to downtown, it takes 15-20 minutes by a car. Few years ago, small bus stop was built near my house. So there is more convenient than before. Also, there are many restaurants around my house. For example, Pisorino, MK, Maguroichiba, Mos Burger, Kentucky Fried Chicken. If we are hungry, we can drop at these restaurant. Each restaurants are nice and I've been there many times. Downtown is also attractive places. There are Sunroad street, Shower street, Kamitori, Shimotori and Namikizaka. I know other unique streets, but these streets are popular. I often go there to have my hair cut and go shopping. Including my hometown, Kumamoto is the most comfortable places.

Third,  I'll talk about my school. I go to KGU university. Now I'm sophomore of this university, but in this year, I'll become 3rd year student. I belong to English-American department and I brush up my English skills there. I take many subjects except Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking. I'm not belong any circles, but I enjoy spending campus life. Campus life is precious for me. If you want to meet you, you can visit Bakery!

Also, I'm studying for get qualification. I take classes for Japanese teacher training course, so every week I feel busy. And if I have a free time, I study another qualifications. For example, TOEIC, English proficiency test, and so on. Reading, Writing, Speaking skills study at the same time.

Next, I'll talk about my dog! My dog's name is "Jolly". Do you think is it good name? He is old, but eat and sleep well. He sleeps all day and he wakes up at midnight. He sometimes barks, so it is noisy. He is mix dog but he has so cute face. He often run off my house and he is worried us. But I like him and he is a member of my family.

I'll talk about my character little bit. I'm a not sociable person, but I like to talk to people. And I'm so curious. I want to try what I haven't experienced. I often think interesting things. I always look for something interesting things. Most people think "You are strange", but I'm not strange! Even bad points and good points, I like my character.

My hobby is listening to music, go shopping and watch movies. If I have a free time, I naturally do that one of them.

I like listening to music. I often listen Western music, Japanese pop music and Korean pop music. In Japanese music, I like to listen EXILE. Their songs encourage myself. I have many favorites songs of them. In Korean music, I like to listen 2NE1. Their songs are catchy, so I enjoyed listening.
Especially, Western music has a big power for me. I often listen R&B, and Club house music. These music make my feeling good.

My favorite artist is "Rihanna". She is a special artist for me. Her songs belong to R&B music and her music has big energy. Her voice is strong, so it matches the sound. I have three albums of her. I every time listen her songs at my house, my music player or in a car. Moreover her fashion is so eccentric. She seems to Lady Gaga sometimes. Her songs make me happy.

I go to Fukuoka once a month to go shopping. There are many shopping places, so I often go there. Tenjin Coa, Canal city, Marinoa city and Hankyu are very exciting places for girls. I think Kumamoto is little expensive than Fukuoka, so I prefer to go there. There is my second hometown, so I know it little bit. Whenever I go there, I find new things. New shops, restaurant, coffee, streets, goods make me fresh. There are many flourishing shops, so I feel like to go there again.


My favorite movie is "Devil Wears PRADA". I watched it few years ago, but I like to watch it. This movie's target is working women. She is busy for business and love. If you have to choose work or love, which will you choose? I think I'll not be able to answer. Both things are important, so I can't choose only one. I was considered this movie. Also I checked their fashion. PRADA is high brand and the design is great. This movie make me happy.

Draft essays 2-03a: Language learning histories

Why are you learning languages? I use langeages for communicate each other. Language makes our communication more smoothly. I have learned four languages since I was born. It took a lot of time to learn each languages. Then I'll introduce languages that I learned.

At first, I have learned English for over 10 years. When I was third year of elementary school, I didn't have English class. However I started to attend "ECC junior". It was very interesting private school. I imitated teacher's pronunciation and practiced it a lot. Every year, I joined the party with foreigners.I couldn't speak only a few English words, but it was just fun. I became fifth year of elementary school, English education earnestly started.

In junior high school, I have still attended its private school. However when I was a second-year student, I quitted for the entrance examination of high school. I entered new cram school, "Subaru", and studied. My English teacher was funny, so I liked to take her class. She taught how she studied English more efficientry. I couldn't study without English text books and words books that I made.

Next is in high school. I was belong to English corse, so I had about three English classes in a day. For example, Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and English seminar. My high school was belong to "SELHI" program, so sometimes other school's teachers visited our class. We had to do many speech in fron to of classmates. I couldn't express my feeling in my words, but I tried to speak many times. I did Group discussion, Persuasive speech, Constructive speech and so on. These speech were hard to practice but I could have a confidence to speak.

In KGU, I also learn Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. I wrote essays, read books and studied for TOEIC. I touched English or some languages every day. At the same time I learned French. It was difficult grammer, so I studied a lot before the exam. It pronunciation was different from English, so I used dictionary every time.

In addition, I learned Chinese in technical college. It was interesting to learn its pronuciation. I practiced easy conversation and self-introduction. I haven't studied Chinese before but I though Chinese was little similar to Japanese. And I took special Japanese training. I did voice exercises and tongue twister. I haven't paid attention my Japanese, so it improved my pronunciation better.

As you can see, I have learned many languages. Each languages have unique features, so I enjoyed learning them. It wasn't easy to master languages, but I'm sure most people toush other languages on TV, magazines or newspaper every day. Languages and people are convined together. I want to speak each languages well as well as Japanese!

Essay 2-02b: Group movie reviews

Yuka watched a Robin Hood 2010 version, and Momo watched *Robin Hood of Disney. There are some different scenes each other, but a few main scene were same. Both Robbin who appeared 2010 and Disney were brave. Thanks to him and his friends, the villagers were helped by misgovernment. We are going to tell about our favorite scene of Robbin Hood.

Yuka’s favorite scene in this movie is that Robin fight with Godfrey. It is a climax of this movie and also important scen. Their fight in the sea was so hard battle and we were attracted this scene naturally. Robin really wanted to win because of avenge on Marion's husband and her father. Godfrey's crime can't  allow. He killed many innocent people and he injured people's feelings. He is  more crueler than the others. His doing is not correct. It is not justice, We believe Robin because his thought convinced me. He taught real justice and don't give up however the lower status. This is why we like this scene. We understood this battle's mean and Robin is the real hero in Middle Ages.

Momo’s favorite scenes of Robbin Hood is that Robbin Hood disguised a poor person, and he gave his bow and arrow for rabbit boy who robbed his birthday present from a government official. Robbin was  kind for everyone, so he was liked by almost all the villagers. Robbin always helped them when they were in troubles because the King levy a heavy taxes. 

Our third favorite scene is that Robbin and his friends beat a bad king cooperation. The villagers were distressed by a levy and self-centeredness of a bad king. Robbin used arrows, and the part of the king used swords and cannons. However, Robbin won. We think Robbin could not win without cooperation of his friends. Through this battle, their ?bands were very strong.

Essay 2-01b: My favorite place

       Do you have your own favorite place? My favorite place is Mall Of America. It’s the biggest shopping mall in the U.S. which is located in Bloomington. Many races are gathered in this place and I surprised this scale. This stay was a first stay for me in the U.S. and it was a home stay program for one month.

       First, I’ll tell you what is Mall Of America. It is a big shopping mall I haven’t ever seen. I　spent there all day in the last day of this program. This facility’s scale is bigger than Disney land! Can you imagine it? I haven’t seen such a big shopping mall, so it made me excited. This mall has some hotels for people who wanted to enjoy shopping all day, so they can stay at these hotels. Actually, we can’t look around all of shops because it has 520 stores, 50 restaurants and many exciting attractions! It’ll be exhausted our foots, so  I think it’s very convenient system for customers.

       Shopping was so fun in this mall. I went around many stores with my friends. We dropped into Forever21, H&M, Victoria’s Secret and Abercrombie&Fitch and so on. We bought a lot of clothes and accessories cheaper prices than Japan. There were many choices to buy, so we couldn’t decide quickly. I remember that we trying on clothes in each store every time. We can’t count how many clothes we say “Nice!” It was so funny. At the same time, we found same stores which are also in Japan. It was interesting to find how difference in the U.S. and Japan. Time was past so past, so we regretted that we couldn’t look other stores.

       Also, foods were delicious. There were many kinds of restaurants, not only hamburger shops! We thought “Little Tokyo” and “Panda express” were unique name. Do you understand what kinds of restaurants? After all, we had lunch at Burger King on North Food Court. We have already eaten in this shop before that in other shopping mall, so it was second time for us to eat. American burgers and potatoes were big even these were small size. We had high calories foods in a day, so terrible.

       Surprisingly, there are not only shopping stores. It has big movie theaters, aquarium and amusement park. When I knew these options, I couldn’t believe why shopping store and amusement park combined together. I thought children won’t be bored all day. I wanted to ride a roller coaster but I couldn’t. Next time I’ll try!

       As you can see, Mall Of America is special place for me and American people. We can do Shopping, playing, eating at one place! This stay was unforgettable for me. If I have a chance to go to the U.S. , I’ll go there absolutely!

Essay 2-01a: Yuka's favorite place

     
       Do you have your own favorite place? My favorite place is Minnesota, in the U.S. Minnesota is not so big state, but there are many races and we can see wild animals everywhere. I visited there in this summer, so this place is an unforgettable for me. Minnesota is the best place that makes me relax.

       First, I like the weather in Minnesota. In winter, Minnesota faces hard season. People wear heavy clothes and they begin to prepare removing snow. Minnesota's winter is a special because winter season is very long compare to Japan. When I went to there in July, the weather isn't so warm. In the morning, the average of the temperature is low, so we felt cold every time. Each house is considered construction for winter. In Kumamoto, we haven't experienced heavy snow like that, so I was surprised at Minnesota's climate. As changing climate, people's life is also changing.

       Second, I like Champlin that I spent a month. I think this town is my another hometown. My host family is living, so I know about this town. My host mother was so kind and she always made me laugh. We talked about my worries and share our opinion. We do many things at her house. For example, talking, playing games, do homework, family dinner and so on. Her house is the best place that I can calm. Champlin has a big place which animals can run freely. Many people have dogs, so they take a walk at dog park. I think it's bigger than Japan. Also, beautiful nature makes us fresh. Not only this town, there are lot of water tanks and rivers. We find how water is clean.

       Third, I like to go to Bethel University. It takes about 20minutes from Champlin by a car. It was very useful that we learned there. We had to take ESL class in each groups every day. Each group is small, so it was good environment for me to speak in front of everyone. We did discussion and shared our opinion. Class activity brushed up my English skills. In addition, we did many outside activities. Especially, I was thought deeply by the activity that is called "Feeding my starving children". We made meals for poor children. Actually, we ate the meals, and we understood their real life. Teachers told us a lot of things that we didn't know. I want to meet teachers. I really miss Bethel!

       Finally, If I go to Minnesota, I want to go to Minneapolis and downtown again. I went many sight seeing spots. For example, Minnehaha falls, Minnesota zoo, Mississippi river, Cathedral of Saint Paul. I went to STILL WATER as a private. It's a first town that was made in Minnesota. Each places are great view and it's worth talking pictures to. Also, it was fun to go shopping. I went to Rosedale mall, Mall of America and Target. Especially, Burger King is nice. I like this fast food shop, so I ate different kinds of burgers in each malls.  

       As you can see, Minnesota has so many good things that I can't count. People, nature and atmosphere are special for me. Even if I go there again, I won't be bored. Whenever I think about Minnesota, I can remember precious memories!

           What is "perfect family"? "Mrs. Doubtfire" is a kind of comedy movie. My interest is that it tells us how a real family should be. It is expressed on some scenes like character's feelings or incidents. At the same time, this movie tells us some important things that is, "Family love" and "Deceit and Trust". These things represent this movie strongly and key words for "perfect family".
         There are two main idea that I expected. First, "Family love". Daniel was romantic and passionate person. Especially, he loved his three children, Lydia, Chris, Natalie. They also had trust for his father. For example, they kept secrets between father, and they think deeply to him. They heard him and his wife, Miranda about their divorce, they were shocked. They missed Daniel so much.
         Also, Miranda loved children. Even Daniel didn't get a job, she worked harder for children. When she had a new boyfriend, "Stuart", she thought about them first. She took an important role in the family then. On the other hand, children loved her too. They were glad to see her smile. Her smile was relieved their anxiety. They could guess her heart first, and followed their parents. However parents decided to break up, children always helped both their parents.
         Second, "Deceit and Trust" caught my eyes. I found that habitual liar hurts person's feeling badly. Daniel worked as a voice actor, so he abused his experience. He began to work as a house keeper for his family. He knew it was bad, but he continued hiding his identify. He often told a lie for children, wife, inspection worker and his boss. He just wanted to see his children. Also, Miranda deceived Daniel too. She was serious person, so she has thought she doesn't go well with his character for a long time. He is optimistic person, so he couldn't think problem seriously. She worried about it and blamed herself every day. She often cried alone at night then. She closed her mind.     
     　　It was also described "Trust" as well as "Deceit". Miranda could open her mind for Mrs. Doubt, but not Daniel. She talked to her about new love, her past life, worry about children. Thanks to her, she could be positive. While children and Mrs. Doubt played a lot, their grades made great progress. They could grow themselves by her strict education. That is why Mrs. Doubt got trust to all members of the family. "Treasure of family", this word meant her essential position.
          I consider this family seems to may be not perfect because the couple divorced and children were confused. However, they have a lot of good points. Actually, they helped each other and made up their weak points. When they are confused deceit or fake trust, with the big family love, they can be perfect. We can accept good points, and bad points. If you watch this movie first, you can laugh all the time because Daniel's strange behavior is so funny. There are many interesting scenes, but sometimes serious scenes in it. You can enjoy both scenes. If you watch it again, you can try to look for the style of couples. Essay 1-02b: Worth campus life

         Why new students think "University Life is free"? It's because students aren't restricted any rules. We can learn many things freely through the campus life about 4years. I'm going to introduce my life in KGU, so you can compare your high school life to university life that how the university is free.      
          First, you can take a lecture what you like. There are a lot of lectures, so you have to decide before spring semester starts. Lecture time is 90minutes, so you may be tired about it. When you were a high school student, you might be scolded sometimes by your teacher about your attitude for the class or your appearance. Actually, teachers doesn't interfere in student's attitude so much, so we need to join in the lecture actively. I got totally 46credits, and another 4credits are not counted in regular credits. The most interesting lecture which I take is "Japanese Phonetics". I've been interested in Japanese teacher since entrance ceremony, so I take it. The teacher, Ms.S is kind to us, and her teach is easy to understand. Now, we are analyzing how foreigner's pronounce in Japanese. Every weeks are exciting and very active. If you want to be a Japanese teacher, you can start to take "Japanese Education" in 1st year. I study hard to keep my grade not to down. Teacher's speaking is useful and they tell us some advice for our future, so you listen carefully, and it'll add spice to your campus life.
          Second, there are a lot of facilities in the campus. Especially, I often go to the bakery with my friends during lunch time or my vacant hours. On rainy day there is full of students, so we can't get good seats then. I usually spend talking with my friends while eating. All breads are delicious, so you'll find your favorite breads. Also, when I want to study, I use the library. If you come there, you'll be surprised at the perfect equipments. You can not only read books but also watch movies, and use computers freely. You'll be able to stay there all day without worrying times.
          Third, I study hard for get some licenses. For example, Secretarial Skill Proficiency Test and Certified Travel Business Supervisor. If you want to get some licenses, but you don't know how to study first. You don't worry about them. You can apply to lectures, so it helps you. I'm not using lectures, so I study by myself at home. If you want to try to get licenses, I recommend you to take lectures.
         Finally, you can make friends more than high school. In high school, I always played with fixed friends, but I could make a lot of friends beyond the class through some events in KGU. For example, fresh-man camp, culture festival, or circle. We can know friends who are different age. There are many places to meet various people. At the same time, we are sensitive about them. It's up to you whether you make good friends, or bad friends. You have to be careful to make friends first, however friends make your life more worthy.
          KGU has comfortable environments to urge us study. If you go to KGU, you can develop your skills and thinking freely. You mustn't miss your own goal, and enjoy studying yourself to the full.

              Hello! My name is Yuka. I’m a student of KGU. I have experienced a home stay once so I’m looking forward to staying you.

              Then, I worry about getting used to a new environment. I’m not a sociable person, so it takes a lot of time to get along with strangers. I want to improve my character through this stay. In addition, I don’t have any allergy about foods but I have a nasal inflammation, so it isn’t so easy to keep my body healthy. I’ll bring some medicine from Japan.

              I’m going to cook some Japanese food when I stay in your house. I can cook miso soup, nikuzyaga, rice balls and so on. If you want me to cook something, please tell me. Will you tell me some Japanese shops? I want to buy foods that I need.

              I’m good at doing calligraphy. It’s part of a Japanese culture. I learn it in elementary school from my 3^rd year to junior high school 3^rd year. It takes a lot of nerves. Japanese sit properly beside the table, and write with a Japanese writing brush. My works were accepted for contests sometimes. I like this work because I can do it without thinking about something. If you haven’t tried it, I’ll teach you!

              I’m not belong to any circles but I enjoy campus life every day. 6 weeks is a very short stay, but I want to make good memories there. I think I give you some trouble, but please forgive me. I want to see you and talk to you.
